Barksdale Mining

Open Pit Mine Unknown Location

Barksdale Resources Corporation is a Canadian based junior exploratory mining company, which has acquired  unpatented mining claims on Forest Service land for their three  projects.  Their total unpatented mining claims cover almost 20 square miles or an area 15 times the size of the Town of Patagonia, AZ.

Barksdale - San Antonio Project

Project Information

US Forest Service (USFS) has posted the San Antonio Exploratory Drilling Project Plan of Operations and Scoping notice. The Plan was submitted by one of Barksdale’s United States subsidiaries, IC Exploration LLC. The Plan of Operation provides specific information on location of drilling, drilling methods, proposed equipment and other background information on the project.

The Scoping Period, time frame when the public can submit their comments about the San Antonio Project, ends on October 19, 2020. For information on the process and how to comment, click here.

If you do not submit comments during this initial “Scoping Period,” Forest Service does not have to consider any comments you submit in the future.

Background:  The San Antonio project is located in the San Rafael Valley Watershed.  Barksdale has described the project as a “potential shallow buried copper porphyry” target. Industrialized mining, in this case an open pit mine, would have significant impacts on the area water supply, wildlife, recreational use of the Forest Service land, ranching, tourism and the private property owners in the area.

In July 2019, Barksdale entered into a purchase and sale agreement with Teck American Incorporated, to acquire a 100% undivided interest in:

  • 315 unpatented mining claims on 6,300 acres of Forest Service land on the eastern slope of the Patagonia Mountains.
  • These claims cover an area equal to almost 10 square miles or an area 8 times the size of Patagonia, AZ.
  • This Barksdale’s project is not affiliated with the privately owned San Antonio Ranch located on the southeast border of Barksdale’s San Antonio Project.

According to Barksdale, “significant historical work has been completed on the San Antonio Property including geologic mapping, geochemical sampling, and extensive geophysical surveys by Teck (a Canadian mining company) which outlined a shallow IP anomaly...”

Barksdale anticipates finding copper, molybdenum, silver, and gold at the San Antonio site.

Barksdale - Sunnyside Project

Project Information

In August 2019, Forest Service announced that Arizona Standard, LLC, a United States subsidiary of Barksdale Resources Corporation, submitted the Sunnyside Exploratory Drilling Project Plan of Operation (PoO). Major components of the PoO include:

  • a surface Induced Potential (IP) geophysical survey,
  • construction of exploration access roads, and
  • construction of up to thirty (30) exploration drilling platforms with no more than 2 drills active at one time, drills operating 24x7 for up to seven (7) years.

The proposed locations for the 30 exploratory drill holes are Flux, Upper Humboldt and Lower Humboldt Canyons in the northwest portion of the Patagonia Mountains.

The Scoping Period, time frame when the public was able to submit comments about the Sunnyside Project, ended in October 2019.  Forest Service is currently conducting an environmental analysis of the Project and anticipates releasing a draft decision in March of 2021.

When the draft decision is released and before a decision document is signed, those individuals and organizations who submitted comments during the initial scoping period will have the opportunity to object to the draft decision. If you do not submit comments during the initial “Scoping Period,” Forest Service does not have to consider any comments you submit in the future.

Background

In August 2017, Barksdale entered into an agreement with Regal Resources USA, Inc., to acquire up to 67.5% of the Sunnyside Property located in Santa Cruz County, Arizona. This agreement includes an interest in:

  • 286 unpatented mining claims totaling approximately 5,224 acres of Forest Service land.
  • These mining claims equal more than 8 square miles or an area more than 6 times the size of Patagonia AZ.
  • The mining claims are west and southwest of the ghost town of Harshaw, Arizona and South 32’s planned Hermosa Project, an underground mine.

Barksdale anticipates finding copper, zinc, lead, and silver at the Sunnyside Project. This project is located in the Harshaw/Sonoita Creek Watershed.

Barksdale - Four Metals Project

Project Information

In April 2018, Barksdale entered into a definitive option agreement with MinQuest, Ltd. and Allegiant Gold (U.S.) Ltd., to acquire a 100% undivided interest in:

  • 38 mining claims on 760 acres of Forest Service land in the center of the Patagonia Mountains, locally referred to as the Guajalote Flats/Red Hills area.
  • This is the smallest of Barksdale’s proposed projects. It covers an area just over 1 square mile, slightly smaller than the size of Patagonia, AZ.
  • In order to exercise the option, the Company must make option payments totaling $450,000 to MinQuest Ltd. and Allegiant on a 50/50 basis, in cash and common shares of Barksdale over a period of five years.

Barksdale states the project has the potential to become an open pit mine producing copper, molybdenum, silver, and gold.  As of October 2020 Barksdale has not announced any specific plans related to this project.

The Four Metals project is located on the western border of the San Rafael Valley Watershed.
